The Government has been carrying out regular inspection and maintenance on the public piers in Hong Kong to safeguard their structural safety. However, the condition of some piers is not able to satisfy current needs after being used for years.
The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) commenced the “Study for Pier Improvement at Lai Chi Wo and Tung Ping Chau – Investigation” (“The Study”), which includes ground investigation works and preliminary design as well as consultation with related stakeholders. To strike a balance between local needs, potential environmental impacts and development potentials, CEDD is hoping to find an appropriate improvement plans for each pier to enhance its structural safety and improve the existing facilities, as a result to meet the basic operational needs of villagers and fishermen relying on vessels access and facilitate the public to visit the attractions and historical heritage located in remoted areas.
The Study covers Lai Chi Wo in North District and Tung Ping Chau in Tai Po District. Scope of works includes:
