This Project aims to enhance the structural conditions and the facility standards at Lai Chi Wo Pier and Tung Ping Chau Public Pier. The piers were completed in the mid 1950s, and have been in service for more than 50 years. The piers have reached the end of their design life. In addition, Lai Chi Wo Pier is considered to be primitive and aging. Cracks and bulging are found on the side faces of the piers. The structural integrity of the pier might have been adversely affected. The insufficient water depth for berthing and maneuvering and low pier level pose safety concerns for pier users and vessels. There is an undesirable berthing arrangement caused by the improper landing point, and an accessibility issue due to the non-fully restrained narrow access. This Project will ease the operation and safety issue, and can enhance the convenience, pleasures and satisfaction of pier users by providing enhancements such as barrier-free facilities, canopy, seats etc.
