The projects themselves will not increase the number of tourists, but will bring opportunities for the development of local tourism. The number of users of the pier will mainly depend on the development of the areas near the pier, as well as the attractiveness of the attractions and tourist facilities. During construction the contractor will implement measures to mitigate environmental impacts, including installing silt curtains/double casing and using prefabricated components to reduce the impact on water quality. The improvement works will not cause long-term adverse impacts on the environment and ecology.
There are many corals on the seabed around Tung Ping Chau Public Pier. We have conducted an environmental impact assessment in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance. The assessment results show that with the design scheme adopted and the environmental impact mitigation measures to be implemented during construction including translocation of the directly affected corals, installation of double casings (additional casings over pile casings to replace the use of silt curtains to avoid affecting corals) and the use of prefabricated components to reduce the impact on water quality, the improvement works will not cause long-term adverse effects on the environment and ecology.
Barrier-free Facilities
The provision of barrier-free facilities enhances the accessibility of the piers for people with disabilities. The barrier-free facilities include a braille map, a tactile guide path and a tactile warning strip, visual display panels and ramps.
Environmental-friendly Materials and Facilities
To enhance the ecological functions of the piers and minimize the carbon footprint, we will consider the use of solar panels, eco-paving blocks and LED lighting. Solar panels will be installed on the roof of the canopy to provide renewable energy to support some of the pier facilities.
Wi-Fi Service and Mobile Charge Hubs
To facilitate the visitor, free Wi-Fi service and mobile charge hubs will be provided to enhance the overall public’s experience when they are at the piers if practicable.
Information Panels
Information panels with the incorporation of QR codes will be considered to provide district weather forecast, detailed information on the respective green tourism spots, transport connectivity and surrounding toilet facilities at the pier.
